Why did I become a driving instructor My story… (1)

Why did I become a driving instructor? My story…

This is a popular question I get asked fairly often and it’s one that I always like to answer, especially when I am in the process of helping others take the next step in their careers.

There are two answers to this question.

1) I wanted something with better career prospects
2) I wanted to be my own boss.

If you asked the same question to 100 different approved driving instructors (ADI’s), you are likely to get a wide range of answers, but this is my story and I welcome the opportunity to share it with you.

I was working as a qualitative engineer, carrying out inspections and managing quality control. At the time, I felt I had no real career prospects. I couldn’t see this as my dream job.

This was back in 2002 and I can put my hand on my heart and say that I have never looked back since. I took the decision to train to become an ADI and here I am today sharing my story.

I had always had a passion for driving. I liked cars and felt that there were more opportunities out there for me, but I just needed to take that first step.

There were some aspects of the training I really enjoyed and some that I found difficult but like any career change, this was likely to be the case. The training wasn’t easy. There are many different parts to becoming an ADI and I was always striving to achieve my dream job.

Since I become an ADI, I have further enhanced my career in advanced driving, carrying our speed awareness courses, fleet driver training and becoming a trainer for those, like yourself, who are considering a change in career.

Becoming an ADI has opened many doors for me and there will no doubt be a few more in the future.

I didn’t know this at the time but since 2002, I have reaped the benefits and helped many pupils become safer and more competent drivers on the road, trained driving instructors and diversified into other areas of my career.

It all started when I made the decision to better myself, become my own boss and provide myself with better career prospects.

If you are at that stage and would like to discuss the process of becoming an ADI in more detail, I have the time for you. Get in touch with me here.
